I find it strangely inexplicable that after all the hysterical, ballistic, emotional response Serbians and its government made about Kosovo: the “heart and soul” of Serbia, the land of the legendary King Lazar and Serbia’s heavenly kingdom, a city without which there is no Serbia, yet when it comes to Kosovo Serbs, the tale is not quite the same.

They are rude and ignorant. I began to lose customers as soon as they showed up…They are more like Albanians than Serbs. They speak Serbian worse than Albanians do. They act like Albanians, speak too loud, park wherever they feel like it. They sell humanitarian aid at the market, they’ve got money that they hide so they can beg for more, they have as many kids as the Albanians, their kids are noisy and vandalize the schools.

On the news

  • Bush made public announcement backing Kosovo’s independence
  • Albanians rallied during Bush’s visit showing their supports. (They might be the only Europeans who smile–sincerely–at Bush’s name.)
