European Rails of Peace Project

Remark: The deadline for this year has passed. If you are interested or know those who do, please pass on this information. According to first and second years, the deadline should be sometime in June.

Prize: Students from Balkan Communities Win a Month’s InterRail Pass to Explore Europe.

Mission: The purpose of this project is to provide 50 youth from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia with visas and sponsorship to travel throughout Europe, in order to help them to connect, through dialogue and shared experiences, with peers from communities previously engaged in conflict as well as peers from EU member countries. A second objective is to help these youth to break through the political and economic challenges of their regions and be provided with the same opportunity to travel around Europe that many of their European peers enjoy.

The railway companies of the following countries participate in the InterRail system: Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Luxembourg, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Ireland, (FYR) Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden and Turkey.

This seems to be a very good opportunity for young people to see the world for free.

The Returning Scholars Fellowship Program (RSFP) invites applications from talented scholars who seek university positions and academic careers in their home countries after studying abroad. The program is open to citizens of Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Tajikistan, and Ukraine.

I’m seeking for co-bloggers and writers for Beyond Sarajevo, a wannabe directory of many wonderful (and sometimes not so wonderful) things about Sarajevo and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

IF YOU

1. Currently live in Sarajevo or Bosnia (you’re the golden angle.)
2. Know Sarajevo well and have deep insight into Bosnia culture.
3. Are tourists, travelers, foreigners or expats who have been to Bosnia and can’t wait to share your knowledge. (Remember, knowledge is a terrible thing to waste. If this sounds familiar to you, think Bill Gates.)
4. Just plainly curious, opinionated and want to brag about anything as long as you can prove it relates to Sarajevo and Bosnia.

You must be open-minded and has >= 1 of the following characteristics: intelligent (everybody is in his/her own way), witty, a sense of humor (if nobody laughs at your joke, it’s his fault.) The voice of the blog is sensitive, insightful, funny, and focusing on trends, resources, and topics relevant to Sarajevo and Bosnia.

I’d like to have 5+ posts per week. But if I can’t meet my quotas, I’m not going to shoot myself. You may choose to contribute on other areas of the web site as well. Do this in any place, any time.
